What is the MMR vaccine?
The MMR vaccine is a vaccine that helps the immune system build protection against three highly contagious diseases: measles, mumps, and rubella.
Measles can lead to serious complications, and vaccination remains the best defense against outbreaks.
Can I use insurance for vaccinations at CareSpot?
Vaccinations are CareSpot are self-pay only and are not eligible for insurance. CareSpot offers competitive pricing on vaccines and other services we provide. Find out more about our self-pay pricing here.
At what age do people typically get the MMR vaccine?
MMR vaccine is usually administered in two doses, typically given during early childhood.
But some adults may be eligible for vaccination, too.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), older children and adults need one to two doses of the vaccine if they do not have evidence of immunity to measles.
If you are an adult seeking an MMR vaccine, CareSpot locations may perform some testing to confirm whether you need it.
How Effective is the MMR vaccine?
The CDC says the MMR vaccine is highly effective after two doses:
- 97% effective at preventing measles after two doses.
- 88% effective at preventing mumps.
- 97% effective at preventing rubella.
The vaccine not only protects individuals, but also contributes to “herd immunity,” reducing the spread of these diseases within communities.
What are the symptoms of measles?
Measles spreads through respiratory droplets from coughing and sneezing. Symptoms typically appear 7 to 14 days after exposure.
Early symptoms include high fever, persistent cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
As the infection progresses, patients may develop bluish-white spots in their mouths and a red, blotchy rash around their face and neck.
