Why does my child need a physical?
Prevention the most important aspect of a school, camp, or sports physical. The examination allows a trained medical professional to screen for illnesses or minor ailments that could lead to serious medical problem during intense physical activity.
For many young athletes, their annual physical provides them with reassurance for the upcoming season. Physicals don’t prevent injuries that happen during competition, but they can tell you that you’re medically ready to compete.
And if a problem is detected during a physical, it’s usually caught before it becomes serious. Your CareSpot provider can help you figure out treatment options and you may be able to resolve the issue in time to redo your physical and still participate in your activity.
What do I need to bring to my child’s physical?
Parents should go with their child to their school, sports, or camp physical – even if the child is old enough to drive themselves. That way, parents can be aware of any issues with their child’s health that might warrant further treatment.
Parents should bring a photo ID (such as a passport or driver’s license). It’s a good idea for the child being examined to also bring a photo ID (which can include a student ID card).
Please bring any information related to allergies, medical history, and current prescriptions and medications so that your provider is aware of your medical situation.
Last but not least, please remember to bring any official paperwork from your child’s school sports team, youth team, or any other organization that requires the physical. Your CareSpot provider will likely have to sign the form confirming that you are healthy enough to take the field.
